Thompson S. Phillips

Retired Founder

Tom Phillips, the founder of T.S. Phillips Investments, has retired from the brokerage and investment advisory business after a distinguished career spanning almost five decades.

Tom began his career in the brokerage industry in 1977, serving in senior leadership roles including Vice President, Branch Manager, and Principal with EF Hutton & Co. and Shearson Lehman Hutton. He is a graduate of the College of William and Mary in Virginia and previously served as an Air Defense Artillery Officer in the United States Army. Tom earned the designation of Certified Investment Management Consultant and also served as an arbitrator for the New York Stock Exchange.

In 1990, Tom founded the investment advisory firm now known as Phillips Capital Advisors and later established T.S. Phillips Investments, Inc., which was a FINRA-registered broker-dealer. Under his leadership, the firm was built on a foundation of integrity, service, and long-term client relationships. In 1999, he was named to the Broker Hall of Fame by Research Magazine.

As he thoughtfully planned for the firm's future and its clients, Tom selected Thurston Springer as the partner to carry forward the legacy he had built. He chose to merge the firm with Thurston Springer prior to his retirement to ensure continuity of service, expanded resources, and a shared commitment to client-focused values. His leadership and vision created a strong foundation that continues to guide the firm today.

Throughout his career, Tom has been deeply involved in civic and charitable organizations. He is a past president of the Oklahoma Securities Industry Association, a Rotarian, and has served on the board of directors for The Salvation Army in Oklahoma City, where he also served as president. He has also served on the boards of the Butterfield Foundation and Friends of Hope Africa University and has been active in his local church for over thirty years.
